SEO for Artists – Selling Art Online

SEO for Artists – Selling Art Online

Artists everywhere are concerned with how to market and sell their wares online. There are many sites that claim they will be able to sell the art, but at what cost. Live galleries can charge upwards of 60% for your goods while others are in the 20-30% range. These are great options of course, but still you should make your art available online for those looking to add your work into their collection.

A great site that is highly recommend is Etsy. It seems like a good outlet for selling artwork but there again you can get lost in the shuffle especially if you are a new artist. Resources are available to make your art more visible like sponsored placement and pay-per-click but there again you are dealing with raising costs in an inflated marketplace. When you are trying to get art sold online you have a pretty step hill to climb at first, once you implement the proper strategies you will see the traffic increase and the sales start to roll in. So how do you get the ball rolling?

Steps to Sell Art Online

Step 1 – Get a website, this is simple for $10/yr. you can purchase a domain name and set up a free site, or get a hosting account and have an ad free site.

Step 2 – Populate the site with your content and pieces, this may be difficult if you have never set up a website before, but generally this step is a simple data addition to a form on a site.

Step 3 – Market the site on free outlets like twitter, facebook, myspace, etc. This will get traffic rolling and also offer some helpful feed back for changes you may or may not want to make.

Step 4 – Start an online store at Etsy.com. This is a very affordable method to get your art in front of buyers; however, don’t give up there.

Step 5 – <>Trade links with other artists. This method takes some work but is well worth it in the long run. You will see your search rank increase over time because these cross links are in place.

Step 6 – Set up an <>Analytic software to monitor your traffic flow, this will show you where users are going when they find your site. Ultimately giving you a clear vision of what pages to work on and how to improve your <>sites stickiness.

Free vs. Paid Web Site Design

Free vs. Paid Web Site Design

Free Sites: Blogger.com is probably the easiest site to use complete package for websites and it’s free. Blogger will put ads on the site and have a sub domain like youbusiness.blogger.com , but free is free right? Not necessarily, if you want a professional looking site that is strong in the SEO department than you might want to get your own domain name and set the site up yourself.

This is pretty simple and it would not be to far out of possibility to consider the design yourself. We know the importance of web presence unique design and encourage artists to design the site them selves but leave the SEO to us.

Sites without AD’s: This option will require you to use a CMS (content management system), buy a pre-made site, have a company design the site for you, or do it yourself. CMS is the way to go, open-source has came along way and is continually updated to offer state of the art options for close to free, and the code is open source making it easy to work with different programmers based on your needs.

We here are My SEO Artist want to offer high quality results for a faction of the cost typical SEO companies are offer. We do the same techniques that the competition is offering but we offer a much lower rate due to our overhead and payroll.

Revise Source Code

How To Revise Source Code

1. Review the Meta data on each page - If you have a hand coded HTML site then you’ll have to go through and edit each individual page, which as you know can take hours to complete. Keywords listed in the Meta tag are very important but don’t blast them, make sure to have a clear, concise picture of one – three keywords that will be the focus of the content on that page. Also, make sure you have description that is specific, not a general site description.

2. Use CSS if the site is hand coded This will improve seo ranking too, the code used to display different font sizes and such will confuse the search engine spiders so make sure to link them extrenally to improve SEO results.

3. Use a CMS Suite – WordPress is my favorite CMS available but there also is Joomla! that does a great job for coding the pages and making spiders find your art site fast and effective. However, it’s been my experience that Joomla! takes a little longer to get indexed and doesn’t do as great of a job in that realm; however, the dynamic ability of Joomla! is unprecedented.

These tips are bound to improve your SEO ranking for Art. I will continue to add new tips and techniques to improve search engine optimization results so people can find the art they are looking for.

Great SEO Results in Less Than a Month

SEO for Artists is Very Attainable

I’m very proud to announce that this site is ranking in the top page on both Google and Yahoo, who as you know take the lions share of searches, for the keywords I focused on. This is not a big deal to some of you, but when you are an artist looking for an edge on online competition it is super important. Artist’s have a struggle in this economy and the Internet can increase sales, if people start finding the art they are looking for. Unfortunately, China seems to have created a massive influx on pretty decent art for ridiculously cheap; this is a fact, very easily debated for hours. I’m not going down that path, instead, i’m staying focused and positive on the facts.

Artists need support from us the people we need to step up and support art, service, and have pride in our home land. I know its a great struggle for all of us with raising gas prices, job loss, and increase in everything…

SEO for Artists is ultimately focal point, and it is really that simple for great search results to just plug your keyword, stay on point, and offer valuable content. However let me digress, with full intention on writing some content that refers to improving your search engine results in a matter of weeks . Let the digression begin, I’m smiling, I want to point out that our economy is in such disarry that we must act now to get back to a sustainable state.

This requirement may not be as important to those of you who are focused on the immediate situation because frankly it’s not terrible. Looking forward is another story. When you think about “everything” it’s nearly impossible to find an area that is unaffected by humans. This is a wide open topic, i know, one that can’t be summed up in a matter of a few thousand words. Facts are facts though, and looking at all the “conspiracy theories” makes it easy to just write off but I’m done with that. I want to discuss them briefly, maybe to vent or to find a happy solution. So here’s a little plug to a site I do just to vent and let people find information on whats going on with that other spectrum of life that is part of a great energy we all share:)

I find writing to be a theraputic art form that has both intinsic value and monatary value. A win win if you will. In school and during my early years I was very confused, still am I think. But I do know what I enjoy, and finding positive creative outlets to express or relieve myself are blessings.

I hope my words can inspire you and wont cause frustration or anger. I don’t understand how so many web commenters just try to get a rise by saying off the wall mean things. Wow, this is becoming a personnel ranting blog instead of the intended SEO in Weeks topic.

So, with out further a do. This is precisely how to improve your SEO results in weeks.

Top Five Steps to Improve SEO for artists in Weeks

5. Revise Source Code – If you have SEO in place already you will be fine, however if this is new to you listen up. You must have Proper source code for the sites to pick you up, check out my post on Revising Source Code which is coming soon, or Google it :)
4. Add Alt to Links and Photos:

Adding New Links and Photos - When adding new data always include the keyword in the title, separate multiple words with a “-” hyphen remember no spaces.

Editing - This process can be grueling, but highly effective. You simply look at your source code for images and links and make sure they have the desired keyword listed as “alt”.

3. Back-links and Comments – Ok, next time you are readying an article about art or a similar interest, doesn’t have to be art even, make a comment about the article. Be honest but offer detail and a link back to your site. This may seem silly or trivial but search engines eat that up, gobble gobble.

2. Web 2.0 - To me this is one of the most frustrating avenues due to the fact that I believe they are very invasive about your privacy and data; I’m not going to digress here, but want to point out that even though you have a facebook account, or twitter account doesn’t mean your SEO will be taken care of. Having your own website address can drive people to the site that may not be friends or in the circles web 2.0 has to offer.

1. Add New Content – This should be the number one step, but want to make sure step one was listed. New Content is vital to great search results, once a site is designed and launched that doesn’t ensure consistent results, they might work well for a couple months but then New Fresh Content is indexed and displayed in search results.

Thanks for reading I have had fun writing it, i’m not going to proof it as i find that very annoying, if you want to comment on where i messed up, great, thanks. However, I think you got the point. If you want to increase your SEO ranking – just do it. Am I aloud to say that? I know that Nike has it trademarked, that means I can’t print then sell, but what about here in content… Maybe next time.

SEO Smart Links Improve SEO for Artists…

How to improve SEO Results using smart links

I want to find a plugin that will parse my sites find the places to link and create a flow automatically, lets hope this works. I doubt it will do it like I want it to; we’ll see. This is a really cool idea though and if it works I will be donating to them for the creation of a wonderful tool. Check back here to see if it works. Now, I’m going to explain why links in content help SEO for Artists.

When writing fresh content and making your site more accessible to search engines and users on the web looking for your specific ideas you’ll need to make it easy for all the content on your site being visible. I’m going to offer some helpful information that will line you up for the future and save you in marketing costs. Search Engines work more and more like people as technology progresses therefore you can write your content about your art work and projects you are working on. This may sound mundane and redundant but trust me it’s not. People want fresh content, we all enjoy new stuff, even if it’s old stuff polished up. Content is the same way, you just put in the time, write a blog, add pages to your sites, and repeat.

So once you are constantly adding new content you’ll see the disturbance of stopping or going back and adding links to your sites other content so people who find one article will be able to easily go to the other articles that will explaining that particular idea you mentioned and don’t want to go in depth, again, with. This is where smart links should come in. It should know, cause it’s smart, where to place links, add alt tags, where I would that is the idea; and a great one if it works.

If it doesn’t work, then I’m going to be continuing the rereading of code and content, which is highly susceptible to errors. I do find them eventually, but sometimes some other user points them out. Glad they would care enough to mention it, but why so rude sometime people… Anyway, art is a fascinating area of life that I only in my 30′s have come to really respect and enjoy. So my way of giving back to community is to help artists improve their search engine ranking with information I picked up over the past 15 years of research trail and error.

How my Google Engage Certifaction will help Artists SEO

I’m on the path to getting certified for SEO or internet marketing. I know how to do it and have been doing it for years. I love the competitive nature keyword writing and/or tag creation. I have found successful techniques and then those terrible techniques that can set any SEO campaign back months because of the wrong page/s getting cached. I feel very privileged to be able to earn a Google Certification*, I’m not there yet, but I will keep you updated, I’m one step away from the four step process. After this I’m going to pursue some ideas I have and also offer clients a very inexpensive but high quality service to help them maximize the money spent on marketing sites. Here at this site I want to help artists get SEO tips and share awesome artwork. If you are an artist and would like to show up here, please send me your details.

Artists that create back links with other sites will ultimately show up better on searches, thats a fact. You will also have to implement other techniques that will allow you to rank higher on searches, but the main goal is to K.I.S.S. Don’t try to bluff google into finding the wrong pages or wrong topics. As an artist, search engines will find you from slogans, medium, or location. This should be your focus while creating back-links. Go browsing around and find sites that offer a comment section and leave some feedback with a link to your site. This little technique will deliver great results in the long run for your artist (SEO) Search Engine Optimization campaign.

Wow, i got sidetracked, started trying to write for search engines instead of you the reader; that is really easy to do. I want to help you succeed and know there are thousands of others like me out their who want the same. IMO I’m unique because I have failed at business in the past and have applied my intelligence to improve my delivery. I will again be offering wonderful services for artists and businesses that want to work with me. I do have a high set of standard I will follow with every project I work on and I can see that the future of the internet is becoming less and less transparent, which I have both reluctance and respect for.

How Have SEO Artists Changed

Is SEO an Art?

In the past it was so simple to get listed on yahoo and msn. You could just load your site with massive amounts of the same keyword, and whoever listed it the most would show up first. This is so wrong when you think about it. You couldn’t find relevant material fast and it was annoying knowing that coders would trick search results due to malicious ways of storing content and code within the back-end of a site.

Now, search engines are very smart, in fact, google uses a very detailed and strict criteria to list sites on their search. If you are trying to show up for a specific keyword or range it will require a exact plan to get the best results. I recommend updated content, fresh content is the absolute most important variable for great SEO results. This can be consuming as a new business or a non technical approach that many Artists employ. SEO for Artists is very important, being lost in the millions and millions of pages available can seem daunting but trust me, if you narrow your keyword to one or two specific words then make sure to constantly update and renew the information you provide you will succeed in garnering better results.

I’m an SEO Artist, and i do believe it is an art form.

How to Improve Search Ranking for Artists

Tips to improve SEO for Artists

Search Engine OptimizationGetting found in the wild wonderful web(www) can be challenging from a new artist, even seasoned artists have issues getting found too. There are some major tweaks you can do to get targeted traffic like Pay Per Click campaigns or advertising with other sites like esty.com or ebay. These techniques, even though they work, can prove costly. As an artist you gotta make sure you are getting the right traffic to your site and in all actuality I don’t know if you’ll even sell your art once people find your site.

People like to see the art, touch it, hold it, and talk about it. The internet doesn’t allow for this interaction so you have to get out there and become known, then have people buy more art after the initial meet and greet process. Therefore making sure to somehow brand your artwork is key. I recommend business cards and a easy to remember piece. Then blog and blog some more. The search engines are looking for fresh content and want to properly place your site within their parameters.

5 tips to improve SEO for Artists

  1. Post on Twitter, Facebook, or other social media outlet
  2. Bing Webtools
  3. Set up blog or similar fresh content
  4. Create backlinks with suppliers, artists, and similar industry sites
  5. Google Analytics & Webtools

These may seem friviolus but believe me they work, the more fresh content you have the better you’ll be placed on searches, also, having a strong following or sharing of links will show search engines you are valid so get out there and post comments on similar sites to share your knowledge about the art you do, this will have a link back to your site.

Also, make sure to offer a place for others to add links to your site. Have a comment section on your site to give users the opportunity to discuss your content. And most importantly use the Web 2.0 to drive traffic; this is an area in which even I could do more with. I see the power of social media but have yet to fully integrate it with my site. That day will come and I know it drives traffic and better ranking.

I have been working with SEO techniques for 10 years and want to offer free tips for artists to become more successful online; that’s why I started Information Technology in the first place. I wanted to learn how to sell my own art. Times are much different now, but these techniques still do a great job in getting traffic and great ranking for artists.
Thanks for reading have a wonderful day.

Keywords for Search Engine Optimization

How to pick SEO Keywords for Artists

Over the years, I have tried many techniques both my own and other recommended styles to get solid organic search engine results. In the past, a web designer could just list the keyword in an invisible color so user wouldn’t see it, but search engines would, this would ultimately get your site listed higher on the search results page. However, search engines wanted to offer better results by using specific algorithms that take a holistic approach to the search results they list first. The problem with showing up on “all” search engines is simple; the algorithms for each search engine is different so what works on Google might not work on Yahoo.

I found out that a coder and writer should work together, making links and content mess, but sticking with a clear topic or keyword. For example, here at MySEOArtist I want to offer Search Engine Optimization for artists so I need to have lots of content, that is focused around two or three specific keywords. This is a very simple strategy, but requires the writer and coder to make sure they offer a complete reference point for search queries to find the content we post.

As an artist, it is very easy to get lost in the shuffle, so don’t let the number of competitors scare you. All you must do is focus on your product, or niche, and continue to write around the keyword you choose. Most importantly, though, do not fill your content with nonsense. Don’t repeat keywords in an effort to make them more potent. You can get great search results by just writing quality content that has clear and concise points around the keywords for your topic.

Researching the keywords is really simple, you can use googles keyword tool or other web tools available for this exact purpose. If you want to experiment to see if these techniques work, you’ll need to find a keyword with low competition and work on that topic; once you start to learn techniques to place better move to more extreme competition. Have fun in the journey and if you need assistance contact us.

Search Engine Optimization For Artists

Search Engine Optimization for Artists

The goal is all about organic search results saving you from having to spend money for every click with PPC campaigns. Search engine optimization (SEO) is a very simple to understand but ultra complex to implement due to the fact that fresh content is required, and by content I mean new words not photos, links, or embeds. Even though most competing SEO companies look a lot better from the front end the invoice looks much different.
Usually you’ll be spending on average around $1000 per month for organic search engine results. As artists if hard to afford this expense in a depressed economy, that’s where My SEO Artist steps in, we will work hard to get top placement results for a specific keywords. Here is the simple process to get great search engine results.

Search Engine Optimization Process

Joomla vs WordPress

This is a common concern when trying to implement an open source Content Management System. Both are truly incredible, over the years there have been a tremendous amount of updates to these options so the choice is dependant on the goal of the site.

If you want a dynamic site that allows easy Administration both work well; Joomla! is much more complex and offers alot more add-ons and extensions; however, WordPress is very simple and easy to update. Both have SEO options available and work very well in making your site show up high on all search engines.

For Real Estate and Automotive industries I would recommend using Joomla! It seems to handle these listings very well. Once installed Joomla! can be modified to allow many different options that will display your database entries with simplicity and elegance.

If you want a informative site for your business and plan on just offering information and a few dynamic features than WordPress is the best option. Its very easy to add new posts and pages as well as placing the proper code in the site that allows the spiders to find your content quickly and effectively. The coolest feature about WordPress is that it is so simple to manage your site from anywhere, in fact they have apps to let you modify on the fly anywhere you have a connection to the web.

So depending on what option you choose, Open Source CMS’s are now a viable option for all websites. We can help you set them up and teach you within a couple hours how to manage your content.

No need to learn HTML, although it does help with the back-end modifications you may want. As long as you know how to save files and type you can become a web editor. There are tips and tricks that will excel the process and get your site to where you want it with the right programmer.
